CRICKETFIELD ROAD

LONDON E5

I was appointed to refurbish and convert this townhouse into two flats together with a new rear extension and loft conversion.

The townhouse was converted into bedsits in the 1960’s and had undergone significant alteration over time, including the addition of a flat roofed extension to the rear and its division of the lower ground floor. The extension was built to a poor standard and due to lack of general maintenance the whole building was suffering from water ingress, dampness and dry rot which ultimately required much of the internal structure and fabric to be removed.

The flats were carefully planned so that quiet spaces are kept away from noise by locating living dining and kitchen spaces in the middle two floors with sleeping spaces located in the top and bottom floors of the property.

The design transformed the previously dark segmented property into two light, spacious family homes complemented by a simple material palette of plaster, oak and new bespoke hardwood double glazed sash windows.

Excellent acoustic and thermal performance was an essential requirement to create comfortable, relaxing places for people to live and both exceed the requirements of the Building Regulations.
